House Alterations, Re-Modelling & Extension

Ravelston, Edinburgh
A first time client.

Commissioned from writing the brief, to design, to completion and occupation.

A two storey villa standing in private gardens with a change in ground level across the site.  The house had a previous two storey extension onto the gable.

At ground floor there was a kitchen, integral garage, dining room, study and drawing room.

The alterations to include extending the kitchen into part of the garage.  The remaining garage space became the boiler room and “gardening bothy”.  The dining room to become a study with full height glazed screen and Juliet balcony.  The enlarged kitchen, re-designated dining room and drawing room became semi open plan with a large new garden room.  That garden room taking advantage of the changes in ground level to be split level and open onto a raised deck which cantilevered over the garden.

The single storey front entrance area being re-modelled to give visual continuity with the other works and enlivened appearance to the front.

Features:  Underfloor heating provided in the garden room; an extensive LED lighting installation both within the garden room and kitchen giving a wide range of lighting and therefore ambience options; a fully fitted kitchen including bespoke breakfast bar area and high specification fit-out including features such as induction lab.
