The Tower had been unused for decades and in very poor condition. Timber floors were decaying and the masonry walls in very poor condition.
After our various design studies the decision taken to alter and repair the Tower to form a single dwelling with one room at each floor level and an open rooftop terrace. The building would also share with the adjacent Castle a very private communal landscaped access courtyard.
The Tower underwent full strip out and installation of new floors. The masonry walls were steel braced and the masonry underwent considerable repair – with some areas being dismantled and rebuilt.
The Castle was still in use as offices and in much better condition. It being redeveloped as a mix of offices and 2 no. large flats.
The entire Castle undergoing substantial repairs to the building envelope including new roofs.
In maintaining the original architectural character with a mix of stone and brick, considerable efforts were taken to source recycled stone and hand made bricks to match the existing in areas where replacement / additional materials were required.
